Spectacular colours achieved with natural dyes make these textiles unique gifts for yourself or a friend. Made from 100% cotton they are functional, eco friendly and fashionable. They wash very well in cold water (hand wash only), are durable and light making them comfortable to wear on a daily basis.
The bags and rucksacks are made by the Borucan Indians who live in the South Pacific region of Costa Rica. The bags display the extraordinary talent and skill these people have developed and preserved for centuries. The textiles are still woven on back-strap looms. The colours area achieved by using natural dyes from plants, flowers, bark and molluscs which are hand collected and therefore quite labour intensive. Knowing which plant to collect when in order to achieve a certain colour is a rare skill and each bag is unique and varies in size and pattern. No two bags are identical.
Mariposa and their owner Lauren who are members of the Fair Trade Federation work in close co-operation with the Borucan Indians and these unique bags are exclusive to Cebra within the UK.
