We have just launched a range of palm oil free soaps and £0.50 of every bar sold is donated to the Orang Utan Foundation Borneo. With your help we can save these magnificent primates from becoming extinct.
Palm oil plantations are now the biggest threat to Indonesia's precious rainforests. Most of the palm oil is sold to the cosmetics industry but also to supermarkets for the production of cheap foods like margarine. Poor farmers are forced into giving up their land and working for large corporations, slashing and burning native rainforests in order to establish palm oil plantations.
Orang Utans are seen as a threat to these plantations and are killed by the hundreds. Baby orang utans are valuable pets and their mothers are shot out of trees in order to get to the babies. We believe that palm oil is not a necessary ingredient in either foods or cosmetics and that farmers can be trained and helped to farm their land efficiently and productively without slashing and burning rainforests that are ultimately also our saviours.
Rainforests produce oxygen and take up carbon dioxide and this helps to combat the ozone hole in our atmosphere as well as the high acidity of our oceans that is caused by air pollution. Rainforests also contain many plants that are the base for pharmaceuticals. Effective management and living in harmony with the eco system of our planet is ultimately beneficial to all humankind as well as our animals and plants.
